Congratulations to Igor Bjelobrk and Armen Ayvazyan joint winners of
the Ryde Eastwood open. First prize may have went to the two highest rated
players, but he tournament was not without upsets. Tony Pickering(1703)had an excellent
tournament winning all his games except the ones against the eventual
winners, giving him a share of third place and a performance rating of 1990.
Joel Harp under severe time pressure managed to draw a winning position against
Igor Bjelobrk. Joel went on to share 3rd place with Tony Pickering and Johny
Bolens. Best under 2000 went to Joel Harp with Michael Morris second, under 1800
was won by Tony Pickering with Lloyd Fell and Herman Rachmadi second. The
Under 1600 was a three way tie between William Xu, Adrian
Miranda and Danny Bisson. Michael Lo won the under 1400 prize with
Jonathan Ren second.
The tournament had a rather poor turnout compared to last years record 72
players. Part of the reason may a have been the NSW v Queensland match up in the
NRL grand final. The NSWCA stood by its commitment to a category 3 Grand Prix
Event with $2500 guaranteed prizemoney. The NSWCA had a loss of over $1000 on
this event. Many thanks go to the arbiters Gary Bekker and Mal Murrell and
organisers Trent Parker and Norm Greenwood. Thank you to the players who helped
