Welcome to the WWW site of the NSW Chess Association. This web site is intended to provide information and news about chess in NSW for our members and guests. For the benefit of our out-of-town visitors from Australia and overseas, NSW is the premier chess state in Australia. With membership spanning over 500, the State Association runs a range of tournaments including:

• The City of Sydney Championship (usually held between Feb. and Apr. each year).
• The State Championships (usually held between Aug. and Oct. each year).
• The Interclub Grade Matches (usually held between May and July each year, involving over 50 teams in various rating divisions).
• Up to five weekend tournaments annually ranging from Category 1 to Category 5 level Grand Prix events on the national GP circuit administered by the Australian Chess Federation.

In addition, the chess scene in NSW offers a number of other popular events, organised by various clubs and sponsors around the State. Further information about these should be obtained directly from individual clubs concerned. If you are 17 or younger you may want to join the NSW Junior Chess League.
