Chess Title Requirements
International Titles
The following listing of International Titles are awarded to chess players
upon recomendation of the FIDE Qualification Commission. FIDE titles, once
awarded. are valid for life.

Requirements for Qualification for International Titles
The following lists show the requirements to obtain International Titles.
Any one result in the respective list is required.
Grandmaster
-
Two or more GM results in events covering at least 24 games and a FIDE
rating of at least 2500.
-
Qualification for the World Championship Candidates Competition.
-
A GM result in a FIDE Interzonal Tournament.
Winning the Women's World Championship match is equivalent to one nine
game GM result;
so also is a clear first place in the World Junior Championship.
International Master
-
Two or more IM results in events covering at least 24 games and a FIDE
rating of at least 2400.
-
First place in any of the following events subject, in some cases, to certain
conditions:

Women's World Championship
-
World Junior Championship
-
Zonal Tournament
-
International Braille Chess Association (IBCA) World Championship
-
International Silent Chess Association World Championship
-
Continental Individual Championship
-
Continental Individual Junior Championship
-
Arab Individual and Junior Championships
-
Qualification for the Interzonal Tournament of the World Championship cycle
-
An IM result in the cycle of the Individual World Championship, of not
less than thirteen games
-
A minimum score of 66.67% in a Zonal Tournament of at least nine games
FIDE Master
-
A FIDE rating of at least 2300 after playing at least 24 rated games
-
First place in any of the following events subject, in some cases, to certain
conditions:
-
World Championships for Under-10 to Under-18
-
IBCA World Junior Championship
-
Continental Individual Championship
-
Continental Junior, Under-16 and Under-14 Championships
-
Arab Junior, Under-16 and Under-14 Championships
-
Centroamerican-Carribbean Junior Championship
-
A minimum score of 50% in a Zonal Tournament of at least nine games
Woman Grandmaster
-
Two or more WGM results in events covering at least 24 games and a FIDE
rating of at least 2300.
-
Qualification for the Candidates Competition for the Women's World Championship.
-
A WGM result in the cycle of the Individual Women's World Championship,
of not less than thirteen games.
Clear first place in the World Girls' Championship is equivalent to one
nine game WGM result.
Woman International Master
-
Two or more WIM results in events covering at least 24 games and a FIDE
rating of at least 2200.
-
First place in any of the following events subject, in some cases, to certain
conditions:
-
World Girls' Championship.
-
Continental Women's Championship.
-
Arab Women's Championship.
-
Qualification for the Interzonal Tournament of the Women's World Championship
cycle.
-
An WIM result in the cycle of the Individual Women's World Championship,
of not less than thirteen games.
-
A minimum score of 66.67% in a Women's World Championship Zonal Tournament
of at least nine games.
Woman FIDE Master
-
A FIDE rating of at least 2100 after playing at least 24 rated games.
-
First place in any of the following events subject, in some cases, to certain
conditions:

Under-10 to Under-18 World Girls' Championship
-
IBCA Women's World Championship
-
Continental Women's Championship
-
Continental Girls' Championship
-
Arab Women's Championship
-
A minimum score of 50% in a Women's Zonal Tournament of at least nine games
International Titles and Tournaments
Some of the principal conditions which qualify events as International
Tournaments and players in them for International Titles are as follows:

Must be governed by the FIDE Laws of Chess and Rules of Play.
-
Must have no more than two rounds played on any day.
-
May not have a speed of play exceeding 46 moves in two hours at any stage.
-
Must be completed within 90 days.
-
Should, if possible, be conducted by an International Arbiter.
-
Must have a minimum of nine rounds.
-
In general, at least 80% of the players must have FIDE ratings.
-
GM results, to be valid, must be obtained in tournaments with at least
three GMs.
-
IM results, to be valid, must be obtained in tournaments with at least
three IMs or two GMs.
-
At least one title result must be based on a round robin event or an Olympiad.
-
At least one title result must be obtained in an event having no more than
one round per day.
-
Results supporting a title application must be achieved in events with
starting dates within a five year period.
